Inspired by the wild west of America and the rhythmic interest of US contemporary composers, there is definitely a little bit of cowboy in this number. The lines are idiomatic and interesting. Terrific ensemble energy can be easily fostered in the outer sections, balanced by a satisfyingly song-like section in lilting compound. Lots of bowing teaching points and some position work are pedagogically useful.
